Evidencing your emissions saving to customers and regulators

Claims need proof. The same charging data that runs your depot documents your carbon performance — here's how to capture and use it.

Cutting emissions is only half the job; being able to prove it is what satisfies customers, regulators and your own board. The good news is that the evidence is a by-product of running the depot.

The data is already there

Your charging system records how much energy you use, when, and by which vehicles. Combine that with the diesel you’ve displaced and you have the raw material for a credible emissions account — energy consumed, miles electrified, fuel avoided. The same data that runs the depot documents your carbon performance.

What good evidence looks like

Strong evidence is specific and consistent: metered charging figures rather than estimates, a clear baseline of what the diesel operation emitted, and a like-for-like before-and-after. Showing the carbon intensity of your electricity — lower still on a green tariff or with solar — makes the picture more complete and more favourable.

Who wants to see it

Increasingly, several audiences do. Customers ask for decarbonisation evidence to meet their own supply-chain targets. Regulators and reporting frameworks want auditable figures. Your board wants to track progress against net-zero commitments. Clean, capturable evidence serves all three.

Build it in

The practical step is to set up the measurement from day one — make sure you can export the charging data, and keep records of displaced fuel — rather than scrambling to reconstruct it at reporting time. Done well, your emissions saving becomes a documented asset you can show anyone, turning a green claim into a proven result and reinforcing the wider case for electrification.
